A Visit from the City: Mayor Platzer at Schloss Fußberg

"A win-win for both sides" — Mayor Platzer on Create College's new home at Schloss Fußberg. On Friday, September 18th, the Mayor of the city of Gauting, Maximilian Platzer, joined us at Schloss Fußberg, the new home of Create College. Dr. Gina Deininger joined the Mayor, along with reporters from the Süddeutsche Zeitung and Merkur, our teachers, and members of the Gauting community.

In his opening speech, the Mayor expressed his enthusiasm for welcoming the college and spoke of its future in the city. He highlighted the college's plans to take part in Gauting's community life, including its clubs and associations, and called the partnership a win-win for both sides.

The Mayor also took the time to recognize the dedication of the Create College team behind the project. He acknowledged Dr. Deininger, who took no break in August and was at the Schloss around the clock to make sure the building was ready for the first day of school. Also recognized was Ms. Hieber of Create College, for her relentless management of the building during several months of renovation.

Dr. Deininger spoke about the five-year search for a sister campus to our CreateSchools home in Tutzing, which ended when a student's parent pointed us to Schloss Fußberg. Heritage protection means the building can't be altered, but with classes of no more than 13 or 14, the rooms suit us perfectly. Fire safety was the one area that required real work, and the local fire department put it to the test over the summer with a rescue drill, lowering a firefighter from the roof on a ladder truck. As it happened, a children's circus was performing in the park at the same moment, and for a few minutes, the drill stole its audience.

The Mayor and reporters asked questions about the college, the curriculum, the student body, and the like. We shared our focus on the emotional and social care of every student, from small class sizes to close relationships with teachers, as well as the Cambridge A-Level pathway for students aged 16 to 19 from Gauting and the surrounding area, with the chance to specialize in three or four subjects, and a scholarship fund that helps make it accessible to a broad mix of families.
