Grade 4: Earning the Fahrradführerschein

Our students begin their bike journeys in Grade 4, where they experience and learn about bike safety, equipment, and the rules they need to follow when riding. Upon completion, these young riders earn their Fahrradführerschein, a bike safety certificate given to primary school students.

Grade 4: Learning the Rule of the Road

Grade 5: First Rides, First Responsibility In Grade 5, they learn to prepare and check their bikes: lights, greased chains, and other essential equipment. They also learn to carry what they need for a ride: water, sun cream, and similar essentials, as they set out on their first ride and camp night around Lake Starnberg.

Continuing through the later grades, students participate in the city's Stadtradeln, also known internationally as City Cycling. This campaign is organised by the Climate Alliance, promoting care for our climate and sustainable mobility, and encourages students to ride their bikes for 21 days. Students track the kilometres they ride to and from school, giving them a tangible marker of just how far they travel under their own power every day.

By Grade 8, students get a taste of what's to come with the Duke of Edinburgh medal challenges in Grades 9, 10, and 11. They become more independent, gently guided through bike preparation and checks rather than closely supervised. This leads to their first long excursion, where students ride a set distance, attend an event, or visit a monument, fully experiencing the fulfilment of a ride well earned.

Grades 9–11: The Duke of Edinburgh Journey

Through the Duke of Edinburgh stages of Bronze, Silver, and Gold, which carry our students through Grades 9, 10, and 11, they become well versed in the preparations required: the heavier equipment, tents, food, and sleeping bags they need to carry. They understand that electronics aren't allowed, and that teamwork and mutual support are essential to success.

At Create Schools and College, students are supported and encouraged to keep riding through the years, working toward a final goal of a Bronze, Silver, or Gold medal. This journey is long, and it builds a sense of accomplishment for every participant.
